Beth Nelson, MD, serves as Senior Associate Dean, Undergraduate Medical Education at Alice L. Walton School of Medicine. In this role, she oversees all activities for Curricular Affairs, Students Affairs, and Admissions at AWSOM.

About

Prior to joining the School, Dr. Nelson was Senior Associate Dean of Undergraduate Medical Education and a founding faculty member at Dell Medical School at the University of Texas at Austin. She has previously served as Senior Associate Dean of Undergraduate Medical Education at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, and the Medical Director of General Internal Medicine at Baylor Clinic.

Dr. Nelson received a medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine and a bachelor’s degree in economics, psychology, and managerial studies from Rice University in Houston, Texas. She completed an internal medicine residency at University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine and the Master Teachers Fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine. She completed the Drexel University Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine course and received a certificate in Medical and Healthcare Management from Rice University.

Dr. Nelson is board-certified in Internal Medicine with over 20 years of experience and is state-licensed to practice medicine in Texas. She has held national positions within the American Medical Association and the Association of American Medical Colleges. She has presented research nationally and internationally. She has received numerous awards, including the AAMC Southern Group on Educational Affairs (SGEA) Career Educator Award (2020), the highest honor in the SGEA.
