The School of Medicine trains physicians and health care professionals to rethink health care and make a difference in their community by pioneering whole health principles.
This element of the curriculum focuses on the human dimensions of care by merging concepts from the humanities and arts with medicine. Students will explore the importance of effective advanced communication, observational and listening skills, ethics, professionalism, professional identity, and cultural aspects of healing. Students will learn about creative arts therapies and connect with the community through opportunities created by the School’s shared campus with Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art.
Expanding access to the arts is one of Alice Walton’s lifelong passions, from opening Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in 2011 to founding Art Bridges Foundation in 2017. The campus supports access to the arts by fostering dialogue, creative expression, and community and student engagement. Gallery spaces can also be found in Heartland Whole Health Institute and the School.
