About the ARC
The 3,010-square-foot Anatomy Resource Center (ARC) delivers an immersive learning experience that seamlessly integrates cutting-edge technology with hands-on exploration. The ARC serves as a premier hub for anatomy education at Alice L. Walton School of Medicine (AWSOM), empowering students to master the complexities of the human body with confidence and precision. AWSOM's emphasis on small-group learning ensures personalized engagement, fostering a meaningful connection to anatomical study.
The ARC houses an extensive collection of more than 100 plastinated specimens. Plastination provides long-term preservation of bodies, organs, and tissues in a dry, odorless state, eliminating the need for hazardous chemicals traditionally used in cadaver preparation. This approach ensures a safe and sustainable learning environment, offering students a comprehensive, detailed study of typical anatomical structures and their natural variations.

All processes involving plastinated specimens are carried out with comprehensive informed consent, maintaining respect and dignity, transparency, and strict quality assurance to ensure the highest ethical standards are upheld.
Anatomy Resource Center Rules and Expectations
Only those with badge access or approved guests may enter the ARC.
Plastinated specimens and anatomical resources must always be treated with respect and care.
Photography and videography of plastinated specimens are strictly prohibited.
Handling or moving plastinated specimens by students and guests is not allowed.
Only trained AWSOM faculty and staff may handle or move plastinated specimens.
Non-plastinated anatomical resources may be gently handled for educational use.
No food or drinks are allowed in the ARC.
Ensure all areas are clean and items are returned to its designated places prior to leaving.
No anatomical resources may leave the ARC.
