Sarah Assem, MD, FACP

Assistant Dean, Clinical Education and Associate Professor

Sarah Assem, MD, serves as Assistant Dean, Clinical Education at Alice L. Walton School of Medicine. In this role, she oversees all elements of the ARCHES curriculum related to clinical care, including the development of clinical skills. In addition to her Assistant Dean role, she serves as an Associate Professor.

Bio

Prior to joining the School, Dr. Assem was Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine and Program Director of Northwest Internal Medicine Residency at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. She also served as an Internal Medicine Physician and the Medical Director of the Internal Medicine Clinic at UAMS Northwest.

Dr. Assem has also served as an Internal Medicine Physician practicing outpatient internal medicine and hospitalist medicine at The Vancouver Clinic, Clinical Instructor of Internal Medicine at University of Washington School of Medicine, Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor at Washington State University Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine, and Core Faculty for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for the Legacy Salmon Creek Internal Medicine Residency Program Center in Vancouver, Washington.

Dr. Assem received a medical degree at Ross University School of Medicine in Miramar, Florida, and a bachelor’s degree in biology at University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. She completed a residency in internal medicine at Kern Medical Center, an affiliate of the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine, serving as Chief Resident her final year.

Dr. Assem is board-certified in Internal Medicine and state-licensed to practice medicine in Arkansas. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. She is also a member of the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine and Associate of American Medical Colleges. She has presented research nationally. She has received numerous awards throughout training and in her professional career, including the UAMS 2024 Phenomenal Women award for women who advocate for equity, diversity, and inclusion.
