Ed Childs, MD, FACS
Senior Associate Dean, Clinical Affairs

Ed Childs, MD, FACS, serves as Senior Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs at Alice L. Walton School of Medicine. In this role, he leads the School’s clinical activities, develops and strengthens partnerships with clinical affiliates, and increases residency opportunities by working with hospital leadership and government officials.
Prior to joining the School, Dr. Childs was Professor of Surgery and Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. He helped develop the Trauma Centers at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Texas A&M University’s Health Science Center, and Morehouse School of Medicine. He also served as Professor of Surgery and Assistant Dean of Faculty Development for Texas A&M University Health System.
Dr. Childs has served as Divisional Director of Trauma & Critical Care and Vice Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Texas A&M/Scott & White Hospital, and as Assistant Professor of General Surgery and Section Chief of Trauma and Critical care at University of Kansas School of Medicine.
Dr. Childs received his bachelor’s degree in molecular and cellular biology from the University of Texas at Dallas and his MD from Texas A&M Health Science Center at College Station in Texas. Dr. Childs is board-certified in General Surgery and Critical Care. He is a Harvard Macy Scholar and has published 90+ peer-reviewed articles with a focus on hemorrhagic shock and vascular hypermeability.
